2009 Fall FACM Conference -
Tradewinds Resort/St Pete Beach
2009 Conference a Winner!
The Florida Association of Cadastral Mappers
23rd Annual Meeting and Educational Workshop held between
October 18 to the 21st was a resounding success based on
participant comments. The facilities at the Tradewinds
and the service provided by the Tradewinds staff was superb.
Who could complain with a location overlooking the Gulf, two
pools, Jacuzzi and a beach side bar?
This year's conference content was also exceptional with
members and consulting firms giving a wide variety of
sessions covering such topics as the Public Land Survey
Layer, Developing an Online Map presence, the cadastral
mapping fabric, change detection, paperless split/combo
innovations and ortho-photography to name a few. The awards ceremony kicked off
after the President's reception and banquet. After a
brief introduction by President Mike Wentworth describing
the accomplishments of the last year and the purpose of FACM,
the awards were presented.
This year's winner of the
Cadastralist of the Year award went to Joe Ward of Orange
County for his work and development of their "Paperless
Split/Combo Project" which was also given as presentation
during the conference. The Orange County Cadastral
Mapping, GIS and CAMA Department received the award for
Outstanding Achievement Award for their development of
an On-Line Foreclosure Map application on the Appraiser's
internet site. Michael Prestridge accepted the award
on behalf of the Department. For her outstanding service of
over 23 years with the Nassua County Property Appraiser's
Office and her rise to become Property Appraiser, the
Lifetime Achievement Award was given to The Honorable Tammy
Stiles of Nassau County.
Outgoing President, Michael
Wentworth, awarded two President's awards to members of the
FACM Board that have significantly helped achieve the FACM
Board's goals during the last year. The first was
awarded to FACM Secretary, Carol Walker, for her outstanding
work in updating and revising FACM Course 2 and 3 over the
last year with new presentation materials and content.
The second was given to Immediate Past President, John
Bausola,, for both his outstanding work in bringing together
the 2009 Conference and his past service on the board. New members of the FACM Board
were then introduced. Frank Conkling of Panda
Consulting will be our new President elect. Ric Fritz
of Citus County was elected to the role of Treasurer.
Jeff Hahn of Brevard County was selected as a Director.
The gavel was then presented to our new FACM President Matt
Kalus, who then gave a short address to the FACM members
outlining his vision for FACM during the next year.
A special thanks to all our
corporate sponsors for not only donating money to support
the conference but also in presenting during the workshops.
They included, Bruce Harris and Associates, Panda
Consulting, ACA, Photo Science, Pictometry, Patriot
Systems, Kucera, Surdex Corporation, Team Consulting, Yotta
